Former Rower Helen Tanger ’01 Headed to Beijing

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Former Syracuse University rower Helen Tanger ’01 has officially been named to the Netherlands National Rowing Team that will compete in August at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Tanger rowed for the Orange in 2001, a crew that finished sixth in the nation.
A bronze medalist at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, she has already competed at the world-class level. Tanger’s Netherlands also earned a bronze medal at the 2005 World Rowing Championships.
At this time in the upcoming Olympic Games, there will be two heats in the preliminary race on Sunday, Aug. 10. The first-place finishers of those heats will go directly to the finals on Sunday, Aug. 17.
The others will race again on Tuesday, Aug. 12 with the top four boats going on to the finals.
