BOSTON, Mass. – Former Syracuse stars Steven Brooks and Ryan Powell are two of 36 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Stars whose limited-edition Chinese Dragon themed jerseys will be auctioned online to benefit the Special Olympics. Brooks and Powell signed their game-worn jerseys at the conclusion of the MLL All-Star game held on July 17 in Denver.
Bidding for the limited-edition jerseys began during the game and will continue online at www.majorleaguelacrosse.com/fanzone/auctions through Aug. 15. All proceeds will go toward the 2010 Special Olympics National Games, which will take place in July in Nebraska and feature approximately 4,000 athletes and coaches competing over seven days.
Brooks, a midfielder for the Chicago Machine, was one of three rookies who participated in the All-Star contest. Brooks had three goals on four shots in the game along with an assist and two ground balls. He also participated in the Fastest Shot Competition, tying for second with a shot of 106 mph.
Powell, an attackman for the Denver Outlaws, tallied six goals and an assist to earn All-Star Game MVP honors. Powell’s six goals set a new All-Star Game record, breaking the previous mark of five goals, which was held by Gary Gait and Ryan Boyle. With his six-goal effort, Powell moved into second place on the MLL All-Star Game career goals list, just one behind Gait’s 11 All-Star Game goals. Powell’s seven points tied an All-Star Game record.
Brooks and Powell helped the Western Conference defeat the Eastern Conference, 31-15, in the highest scoring All-Star Game in league history.
