SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University swimmers continued the efforts of the ‘Cuse Cares Community Service Program on Saturday at the Seventh Annual Youth Day Barbecue. Sophomore swimmer Arda Isiksalan, junior swimmer Sean Ellis, assistant swimming coach Ellie Walker, student-athlete development coordinator Kevin Wall and senior associate director of athletics Henry Wildhack participated in the event.
The Youth Day Barbecue, organized by community member Mary Nelson, is designed to promote education and show youth in the Syracuse community there are alternatives to violence. In addition to the barbecue and free entertainment, backpacks filled with school supplies are given to students of all ages. Isiksalon, Ellis, Walker, Wall and Wildhack helped distribute over 9,000 backpacks and other school supplies to children in attendance.
This is just one of many 'Cuse Cares community service projects SU student-athletes are involved with in this area. The 'Cuse Cares Program, supported by Citizens Bank - New York, is the community outreach program for student-athletes at Syracuse University. SU's student-athletes have been recognized with SU's Chancellor's Award for Public Service and Community Engagement in each of the past 11 years for their volunteer efforts in the community.
