Bernier Makes Canadian Roster for Upcoming World Cup Qualifying Match

TORONTO, Canada – Former Syracuse soccer star Patrice Bernier was one of 18 players selected to Canada’s Men’s National Team roster for its next match in the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Qualifiers. Bernier will be on the field for the Canucks when they host Jamaica on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at BMO Field in Toronto.
Canada will play six matches against three teams in Stage III of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Qualifiers. Canada needs to finish either first or second in Group B to advance to CONCACAF Stage IV in 2009.

In addition to making Canada’s roster for its upcoming qualifying match, Bernier also tallied a goal for his Denmark club last week. Bernier scored in the 32nd minute to help FC Nordsjaelland to a 2-1 victory against Queen of the South in the UEFA Cup second qualifying round in Airdrie on Aug. 14.
At Syracuse, Bernier was a member of the NSCAA All-Region First Team in 1999 and was a BIG EAST All-Rookie Team choice in 1998. He scored 16 points in 1998 and tallied 18 in 1999 for a total of 34 career points. Bernier started all 38 games of his career and he ranks seventh all-time in points per game at 0.89.
