SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men's and women's cross country teams look to follow in the footsteps of last week's performance as they travel to University Park, Pa. to run in the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State University. The Orange is coming off of first-place finishes in last weekend's Harry Lang Invitational. Both the men's and women's teams claimed the top three spots, individually, as well as four out of the top five.
The Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invite will take place on Saturday, Sept. 13. The men are scheduled to take off at 9:00 a.m. while the women are slated for a 9:35 a.m. start time. The Orange men will take on a 5.2 mile course and the women will face a 6,000-meter challenge.
Competition will include Columbia, Dickinson, Franklin and Marshall, Geneseo State, IUP, Kutztown, Millersville, Misericordia, Penn State, PSU Club, Susquehanna, Wittenburg and Youngstown State.
Last weekend, the Orange was led by junior Curtis Bixler and freshman Lauryn MacFawn, as the two SU harriers turned in first-place times of 19:05.00 and 17:00.00, respectively. The men's race was measured as a 6K while the women ran a 4,200-meter course.
The Orange will not race again until Friday, October 3, when it returns to Pennsylvania for the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University at 11:00 a.m.
