In the spring season opener, SU will take on Boston University in the Kittell Cup on March 28. The cup is named for Janet Kittell, former associate director of athletics, for her support of the women’s rowing program. The Kittell Cup is donated by former SU rower, Kristin Bidwell ’90, with the cup going to the winner of the annual Syracuse-Boston University race. Both teams have won the race three times alternately, with Boston University taking the title last year.
The Orange will return home to Syracuse on April 4th to row against Cornell and Yale in the Cayuga Cup, before partaking in the Orange Cup on April 11. The Orange Cup has been awarded at the Syracuse-Pennsylvania-Northeastern race since 1979. Syracuse has been awarded the cup five times, and is looking to break the three consecutive wins Northeastern has claimed.
Syracuse will conclude its regular season against Harvard and Dartmouth with the O’Leary Cup on April 18.
The BIG EAST Championship is set to take place in Camden, N.J. on April 26. The Orange won three-consecutive titles from 2001 to 2003. SU will then compete in the Eastern Sprints on May 17, followed by the NCAA Championship. Syracuse has qualified for the NCAA Championship five of the past 12 seasons (1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2005).
