2010-11 BIG EAST Championship
Individual Season Results (Men) (Women)
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Orange junior Dan Busby is the men’s BIG EAST Cross Country Athlete of the Week after leading the men a perfect 15-point sweep at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State. Busby captured first-place by finishing with a time of 25:58 on the 5.2 mile course.
Both the Syracuse men’s and women’s teams have accrued first-place finishes their two races this season as well as three out of four first-place individual wins.
"Dan is a gifted runner," head coach Chris Fox said. "This award reflects the hard work of the whole team. Although I’m pleased with the way we’ve performed in our first two races, we have a lot to prove down in Bethlehem (Pa.)."
Busby’s strong performance boosted the Orange to its highest national preseason ranking in program history when the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the Division I men’s cross country poll on Tuesday. Syracuse is ranked 28th in the nation. Also, the women’s side received votes for the first time on a national level.
On Monday, the USTFCCCA ranked the Orange men third and the women’s lineup fourth in the Northeast Region.
The SU harriers made more news this week when Syracuse University was chosen to host the 2010-11 BIG EAST men’s and women’s cross country championship on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010. The race will be held at Drumlins Country Club – West Course.
SU’s selection marks the first time Syracuse has ever hosted the BIG EAST Championship. It will also be the first time a BIG EAST Championship has been conducted in the state of New York other than Van Cortlandt Park.
The Syracuse men’s and women’s harriers return to the trails on Friday, Oct. 3, at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa. hosted by Lehigh University.
