SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University will host the Stars and Stripes Laxfest featuring three collegiate women’s teams and three national squads, including the Orange and the US National team, on October 11-12 at the Lampe Athletics Complex and Carrier Dome. The event will also include a clinic for players in grades 3-12, a coaches certification clinic and a girl’s lacrosse event for youth, high school and club teams.
“It’s very exciting to have the U.S. National Team come to the Central New York area,” said Syracuse head lacrosse coach Gary Gait. “It will be great for our team to play against the best players in the world. It should be a fun weekend.”
The tournament begins at the Lampe Athletics Complex Saturday at 8:30 a.m. when the Scotland national team takes on Cornell and Haudenosaunee faces Vermont. At 10 a.m., the U.S. national squad takes on Cornell, while Syracuse plays Haudenosaunee. The 11:30 a.m. contests feature Scotland against Syracuse and the U.S. versus Vermont. At 1 p.m. the U.S. takes on Vermont and Haudenosaunee faces Cornell followed by the U.S. against Cornell and Scotland versus Vermont at 3 p.m.
The final contest of the day features Syracuse and Team USA at 6:00 p.m. at the Carrier Dome. An autograph session with both teams will immediately follow the game. Admission to the final game is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 18 and under. Fans can purchase adult tickets in advance for $8 at local Napa Auto Parts stores starting on Sept. 29. Prior to the game, Gait and members of the Orange and Team USA will conduct the MVP Health Care Lacrosse Clinic from 4 – 5 p.m. in the Dome. The clinic is open to girls in grades 3-12. Participants must have a ticket to the Saturday night contest to take part in the clinic.
In addition there will be a US Lacrosse Level I Coaches Certification Clinic on Saturday. Anyone interested in the coaches clinic should contact Erin Smith at esmith@uslacrosse.org.
Laxfest continues on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. with an event for girl’s youth, high school and club teams. The event will consist of four divisions – Elite (club and varsity high school teams), Rising Stars (grades 8-11), Modified (grades 7-8) and Youth (grades 5-6). Registration for the tournament is $600 per team for the Elite and Rising Star divisions, $400 per team for the Modified Division and $300 per team for the Youth Division. Gait and the Syracuse lacrosse squad will provide a skills clinic for all participants.
Sunday’s schedule also includes international play as Scotland takes on USA 2 at 8:30 a.m. followed by Haudenosaunee and USA 1 at 10 a.m. Haudenosaunee faces USA 2 at 11:30 a.m. before Scotland and USA 1 square off at 1 p.m. Scotland is back in action at 2:30 against Haudenosaunee.
