Hamilton, N.Y. – The Syracuse men’s and women’s "B" cross country teams dominated the competition at the Harry Lang Invitational hosted by Colgate University. SU claimed the top three individual spots and placed four in the top five in each of its respective races. Team wise, the Orange placed 25 points ahead of its nearest competitor, Colgate, while the women clipped the Raiders by 11 points.
The Orange was spearheaded by junior Curtis Bixler and freshman Lauryn MacFawn as the two SU harriers turned in times of 19:05.00 and 17:00.00, respectively. The men trekked a 6K course while the women rounded a 4,200-meter course.
"I am extremely pleased with the way our team ran today," head coach Chris Fox said. "It’s always nice to start the season off on the right foot, yet it’s even better when the team instills a sense of excitement in everyone else after such a strong performance."
Rounding out the top five for the men, sophomore Steven Weeks finished exactly one second behind Bixler with a beat of 19:06.00 for second-place while last year’s Harry Lang Invite champion, sophomore Erin Schirm claimed third with a time of 19:07.00 Colgate’s Lyle Tolli kept the one-second-apart finish streak alive after finishing up with a 19:08.00 pace. Sophomore Brady Becker leveled out the top five after busting the tape in 19:22.00.
As for the women, sophomore Katie Hursey followed up MacFawn’s performance running for a second-place time of 17:04.00. Sophomore Elizabeth McCarter was clocked at 17:10.00 for third while junior Lynne Mundy mowed down the 4,200-meter test in 17:21.00, tying Colgate’s Elise DeRoo for fifth.
