DePetris, Hogan and Rogers Elected as 2010 Captains

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Seniors Jackie DePetris and Lindsay Rogers and junior Liz Hogan will serve as team captains for the 2010 Syracuse women's lacrosse squad head coach Gary Gait announced on Monday, Oct. 19. Rogers is a captain for the second consecutive season, while DePetris and Hogan will serve in the role for the first time. The trio was elected in a vote by their teammates.
Rogers earned All-Northeast Region and All-BIG EAST Second Team honors last season after setting a single-season school record with 56 draw controls. In addition, she picked up 26 ground balls and caused 17 turnovers. In 2008, Rogers earned IWLCA All-America Second Team honors and was the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. She was also an All-Northeast Region and All-BIG EAST First Team honoree. In addition, Rogers is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
DePetris played in 18 games last season and recorded five goals and a career-high five assists. DePetris started 18 games in 2008 when she scored personal-bests in nearly every statistical category, including points (22), goals (21), ground balls (16), draw controls (13) and caused turnovers (12). DePetris serves as president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Hogan has started every game in goal for the Orange during the past two seasons. She is a two-time All-BIG EAST and All-Northeast Region selection. Last season, she allowed less than 10 goals in nine games and led the conference with a 9.58 goals-against average. Hogan recorded 10 saves in Syracuse's NCAA quarterfinal game against No. 2 Maryland, marking the 13th time in her career that she reached double figures in saves in a game. Hogan led the team with 41 grounds balls and ranked third with 17 caused turnovers last season. She also had an assist.
Syracuse finished the 2009 campaign with a 14-5 record and won a share of the BIG EAST regular-season title. The 14 victories are the second-highest single-season total in school history. The Orange earned the No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament where it advanced to the quarterfinals for the third straight year.
