
Orange Returns to Ice Against RMU

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Orange will return to the ice after its week off when it travels to CHA conference rival Robert Morris. SU will play against the Colonials on Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21, with both games set to begin at 7 p.m. It is the second consecutive conference series for the Orange, and only its second familiar opponent of the season. The game will be the final road game for Syracuse in 2009 before it begins a three weekend homestand to close out the year.
Last Time Out
The Orange split it home series against Niagara, winning 2-1 and losing 3-2. In both games, Syracuse scored first in the opening period. Sophomore Kylie Klassen and senior Gabrielle Beaudry each scored their first goal of the season in the 2-1 victory, while freshman Kelsey Welch tallied her first collegiate assist on Beaudry's goal to open the second period. Freshman Erin Burns scored her first Syracuse goal to give the Orange the early lead in game two, while junior Julie Rising netted her fourth of the season. Rising is tied for second on the team in goals (4) and assists (5).
Flanagan Names 2009-10 Captains
Head coach Paul Flanagan announced four assistant team captains for this year's squad. The four wearing the "A" are senior defenseman Brittaney Maschmeyer, senior goaltender Lucy Schoedel, junior forward Stefanie Marty, and sophomore forward #Janelle Malcolm. Maschmeyer, a senior transfer from St. Lawrence, has played in all 10 games this season and is tied for second on the team in assists. Schoedel was a part of the original Orange and has earned a goals against average of 2.57 and a .903 saves percentage through every game this season. Marty returns as a co-captain from last year's squad after leading the team with 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists). This season, the Nussbaumen, Switzerland native has a team-high 10 points on four goals and six assists. Malcolm has a team-high five goals and has tallied three assists this season.
Syracuse-Robert Morris Series
The Orange is 0-3-1 against the Colonials. It was the first CHA opponent Syracuse faced in program history when it traveled Oct. 10-11, 2008. The Orange lost it first series with RMU with scores 1-0 and 3-2. Schoedel recorded 31 saves, her highest against Robert Morris, in the first meeting. In the second game of the series, sophomores Megan Skelly and Lisa Mullan scored goals. SU hosted the Colonials on Jan. 9-10, 2009, where it lost, 3-1, and played to a 2-2 tie in game two. It was the program's first overtime draw in history.
Scouting the Colonials
Robert Morris is 4-7-1 on the season after losing, 3-1, and tying, 2-2, against Niagara. The Colonials upset No. 6 Wisconsin, 3-1, prior to its series against the Purple Eagles. Brianna Delaney leads the team in points with 13 (5 goals, 8 assists), while Daneca Butterfield has a goals against average of 2.49 and a .923 saves percentage for every game this season. She was named CHA Offensive Player of the Week for her performance against Niagara.
