
SU Attempts to go 9-0 Against Dartmouth

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The rv/25 Syracuse women's basketball team begins a five-game homestand against Dartmouth on Sunday, December 13 at 5 p.m. inside the Carrier Dome. Following its Sunday contest, SU has nine days off before hosting Delaware State on December 22 at 2 p.m. The Orange is a perfect 8-0 and off to its best start in 31 years. Last Time Out
The Orange remained undefeated after its 70-54 defeat of Ohio on December 6. SU finished with an even spread of points with four players scoring in double-digits, including junior guard Erica Morrow, who had a team-high 14 points. Freshman Kayla Alexander added 13 points, while senior forwards Juanita Ward and Nicole Michael pitched in 11 and 10, respectively. Michael and freshman guard Carmen Tyson-Thomas anchored SU's defense with six rebounds apiece.
Alexander Earns BIG EAST Honors
Freshman center Kayla Alexander was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for her performance against Wagner and at Ohio. It was the second consecutive conference honor the Orange received his season, with junior guard Erica Morrow being named the Player of the Week last week. Alexander averaged 18.0 points, 4.0 blocks and 2.0 assists as SU stayed perfect last week. She scored a career-best 23 points in Syracuse's dominating 93-55 win against Wagner on December, while recording 13 points, three blocks and two rebounds in the 70-54 win against the Bobcats. The freshman is averaging 12.8 points, 5.4 blocks and a league-best 1.9 blocks per game.
Syracuse in the National Rankings
The Orange made its first appearance in the 2009-10 season in the top 25. It is receiving 56 votes in the latest USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll, putting SU 25th. It is the fifth consecutive week the Orange has received votes in the poll. Syracuse is also receiving 18 votes in the most recent AP Poll, putting the Orange 31st. The last time Syracuse was ranked in the top 25 was on February 18, 2008, when SU was 24th in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll and 22nd in the AP Poll.
Orange Against the Big Green
Syracuse has the 2-0 advantage in the all-time series against Dartmouth. The first meeting between the two schools was in 1980-81 in Syracuse when the Orange won, 82-76. The teams renewed their rivalry 20 years later when the Big Green hosted the Orange, who won 63-59.
Scouting Dartmouth
The Big Green are 2-4 this season after beating Stony Brooke, 77-72 on December 11. Sasha Dosenko and Faziah Steen each scored career-highs of 18 points while Brittney Smith was just shy of a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Smith leads Dartmouth with 11.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.7 assists per game, which are all team-bests. The 2008-09 women's team brought home the program's 17th Ivy League Championship with a 13-1 Ivy record, 18-11 overall, and is predicted to finish first in the conference this season.
