
Michael Leads Orange to 9-0 Start

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's basketball team stayed perfect with a 56-42 win against Dartmouth at the Carrier Dome on Sunday evening. Senior forward Nicole Michael led the team with 14 points and seven rebounds, powering the Orange to a 9-0 record for only the second time in program history. SU began the 1974-75 season 10-0.
Freshman center Kayla Alexander and senior forward Juanita Ward were among SU's other scorers in double figures, who contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.
SU shot a dominate 51.1 percent from the floor, while allowing the Big Green to just 28.3 percent shooting. The Orange held the advantage in points in the paint, 38-8, while turning 22 Dartmouth turnovers to 24 points.
The Orange went on an impressive 9-0 run to open the game, while holding the Big Green scoreless for the first three minutes. Dartmouth cut its deficit to four, 20-16, with 6:43 remaining, but Syracuse increased its separation by as much 13 with a jumper by Alexander with 1:14 remaining in the half and kept the wide 31-18 margin heading into the locker room.
Michael and freshman guard Elashier Hall made back-to-back 3-pointers as the Orange went on a 10-0 run to start the second half, 41-18. The Big Green narrowed the margin to 19 with 14:30 remaining, but a layup by Ward with 10:23 left kept the game in Syracuse's control, 50-26. Dartmouth was unable to overcome the double-digit deficit as the Orange cruised to its ninth straight victory.
The Orange will play its second of a five-game homestand when it hosts Delaware State on Tuesday, December 22 at 2 p.m.
