SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse women's lacrosse team is ranked No. 3 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll and No. 2 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll. It is the highest regular-season ranking for the Orange in both polls. Last season the Orange climbed as high as No. 4 in the IWLCA poll and No. 3 in the media rankings during the regular season.
The Orange garnered 352 points in the IWLCA poll. Four-time defending national champion Northwestern is No. 1 after receiving all 20 first-place votes and 400 points, followed by Duke at No. 2 with 363 points. Northwestern also holds the top spot in the media poll with 140 points, with the Orange No. 2 with 133 points.
Syracuse opened the 2009 season with a 21-4 victory against Le Moyne. It was the program's 125th all-time victory. Since the program began in 1998, the Orange has an all-time record of 125-56 for a winning percentage of .691, the fourth-highest in the nation.
The Orange goes on the road for the first time this season with a two-game road trip to California this weekend. Syracuse takes on No. 17/16 Stanford on Friday at 6 p.m. (Eastern time) and California on Sunday at 3 p.m. (Eastern time).
