Novice Eight Wins BIG EAST

Pennsauken, N.J. – The Syracuse women's rowing team finished second at the BIG EAST Championship with 97 points at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, N.J. Notre Dame won its sixth-consecutive championship with 112 points. The novice eight showed it was the class of the BIG EAST by winning the Grand Final in 7:01.713. The Irish was second, finishing in 7:08.309. Georgetown, Rutgers, West Virginia and Villanova rounded out the novice eight field.
Syracuse placed fourth in the varsity eight, crossing the line in 6:43.507. Louisville won in 6:30.845, while Notre Dame (6:35.775) and Georgetown (6:39.289) were second and third. Rutgers finished behind the Orange (6:57.299) and Connecticut was last.
SU finished second in the varsity four with a time of 7:40.637. Notre Dame won the race (7:36.622), while Georgetown finished third (7:47.395). Louisville, Villanova and West Virginia rounded out the field.
The Orange also placed second in the second varsity four, crossing the finish line in 7:58.503. Notre Dame won the race (7:46.132), while Georgetown (8:16.254) placed third and Louisville (8:21.618) fourth.
Syracuse came across the line third in the second varsity eight at 6:50.254. Notre Dame won (6:42.547) and Louisville was second at 6:46.253. Connecticut was behind the Orange at 7:04.543. Rutgers and Georgetown were the last two to cross the finish line.
SU finished third in the novice four with a time of 8:46.667. Notre Dame won the race and Georgetown finished second with times of 8:02.648 and 8:12.602, respectively. The race was non-scoring.
The Orange must now prepare for the Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 17 in Camden, N.J.
