SYRACUSE – The Syracuse Orange women's rowing team placed second in three races and improved on all of its times from a week ago on Friday evening at the James A. Ten Eyck Boathouse located at Onondaga Lake Outlet in Longbranch Park. The top-ranked Yale Bulldogs retained the Cayuga Cup for the sixth consecutive year by winning all five of the races in which it competed, including the varsity eight. Cornell won one race and finished second in two others.
“Even though we did not beat Yale, today was a good day for Syracuse rowing,” said senior coxswain of the varsity eight Kate Todd. “We rowed a hard, fast gutsy race and accomplished our goal. We will take the momentum from this weekend into our race with Penn and Northeastern next Saturday.”
The Orange finished third in the second varsity four heat with a time of 7:56.7. The YaleB shell was first at 7:29.21 with the YaleC boat finishing second at 7:36.0. Syracuse's time was 29 seconds faster than its time at Boston a week ago.
SU had a strong showing the varsity four, placing second in 7:42.07. Yale won the race with a time of 7:23.24 and Cornell finished third at 7:46.53. The Orange improved its time by 24 seconds from a week ago.
Syracuse finished third in the novice eight race with a time of 7:04.37. Yale was first at 6:49.72 and Cornell placed second at 6:52.91. SU was 10 seconds quicker than it was last week at Boston.
The Orange outlasted Cornell to place second in the varsity eight heat at 6:44.8. The Bulldogs were first with a time of 6:34.5 and Cornell was third with a time of 6:50.27. Syracuse's time was 12 seconds faster than its time at Boston a week ago.
SU placed third in the second varsity eight in 6:57.76. Yale won the race at 6:38.17 and Cornell finished second at 6:54.32. The Orange improved its time by 10 second from a week ago.
Syracuse finished second in the novice four race with a time of 8:00.35. Cornell won the race in 7:50.78. SU was 15 seconds quicker than it was last week at Boston.
The Orange remains home and will host Pennsylvania and Northeastern for the Orange Cup next Saturday, April 11.
