DURHAM, N.H. – The third-ranked Syracuse University field hockey team scored the game's first three goals and never looked back in a 5-2 win against New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field. Junior All-American Lindsey Conrad had two goals, while sophomores Shelby Schraden and Kristin Girouard and freshman Kelsey Millman tallied the other three for the Orange. Syracuse improved to 2-0, while New Hampshire moved to 0-1.
“We got a win against a tough New Hampshire team and that is always a good thing. We played better today than we did Friday and had a lot of different people step up and score,” head coach Ange Bradley said. “It is a good step in the right direction for our team.”
Schraden scored her second goal of the year came from the deep right-hand part of the circle, beating UNH goalkeeper Katherine Nagengast far post. The play was setup by an entry pass from Millman at the 9:54 mark.
Conrad's first goal came off a penalty corner with freshman back Amy Kee providing the assist at 16:02.
Girouard's tally at 24:58 was also setup by Kee after her 30-yard hit was redirected by Girouard high under the crossbar, giving the Orange a 3-0 advantage at 24:58.
The Wildcats got on the board at 29:42 on a goal from Meg Shea.
The Orange controlled the second half, scoring twice more.
Millman tallied her first career goal from the left side after a solid pass from sophomore Heather Susek at 38:07.
Hayley Rausch added UNH's second goal at 46:47, but Conrad's second goal of the day at 64:58 put the game officially out of reach. Fellow All-American Martina Loncarica provided the assist on Conrad's second tally.
The Orange opens its home schedule on Friday, September 4 when it plays host to Ohio State at J.S. Coyne Stadium at 3 p.m.
