#10 Orange Bow Out To #3 Princeton in Quarterfinals

PRINCETON, N.J. – Syracuse University field hockey's season came to a close Sunday afternoon as the Orange fell 2-1 to Princeton in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals at Bedford Field.
Syracuse (13-7) battled back from a late deficit to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but couldn't hold on against the Tigers. Bo van Kempen scored the equalizer for the Orange, converting a penalty corner with assists from Pati Strunk and Liz Stange. Jessie Eiselin made four saves in 57 minutes of action for Syracuse.
Princeton (17-3) advanced to the second round behind goals from Pru Lindsey and Beth Yeager. Lindsey opened the scoring in the third quarter with Yeager assisting, while Yeager netted the game-winner in the final minutes with assists from Lindsey and Anna Faulstich. Olivia Caponiti made one save for the Tigers, who went the distance in net for 60 minutes.

How it Happened
- The Orange had an early opportunity in the seventh minute when Ally Snyder unleashed a shot that sailed wide of the goal.
- Princeton earned its first penalty corner in the ninth minute, with Yeager's shot saved by Eiselin to keep the game scoreless.
- The Tigers continued to pressure Syracuse's defense in the first quarter, drawing another corner in the 15th minute, but Yeager's attempt went wide to end the period at 0-0.
- Syracuse's best chance of the second quarter came in the 19th minute when the Orange earned their first penalty corner of the game. Strunk inserted to van Kempen, whose shot was saved by Caponiti to preserve the scoreless tie heading into halftime.
- Midway through the third quarter, the Orange scored the would-be go-ahead goal from Aubrey Turner, but after a video referral, the goal was called back as the 0-0 tie endured.
- Princeton broke through in the 45th minute when Lindsey redirected a feed from Yeager on a penalty corner to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead heading into the final quarter.
- With time running down in regulation, Syracuse pulled Eiselin for an extra attacker in the 55th minute. The move paid dividends when the Orange earned a corner in the 56th minute. Strunk's insert found Stange for the trap, setting up van Kempen's drag flick that beat Caponiti to tie the game at 1-1 with just over three minutes remaining.
- The Orange couldn't hold the tie, however, as Princeton earned a corner in the 58th minute. Lindsey inserted to Yeager, whose shot found the back of the cage with assists also credited to Faulstich, giving the Tigers the 2-1 victory with less than two minutes to play.
