SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse women's rowing team announced its schedule for the 2009-10 season. The Orange competes in three events on the road in the fall, including the Poughkeepsie Invitational on October 3, the Princeton Chase on October 25 and the Foot of the Charles in Boston on November 14. The Orange will host the Syracuse Fall Invitational on October 31 to wrap up its fall season.
The spring season commences with the Kittell Cup against Boston University on March 27 in Syracuse. The cup was donated by former SU rower Kristen Bidwell '90 and named after Janet Kittell, former associate director of athletics for her support of the women's rowing program. The cup is presented to the winner of the annual Syracuse-Boston race. The Orange has won the cup three times, with the Terriers taking the title last year.
The Orange travels to Ithaca, N.Y. for the Cayuga Cup on April 3-4 competing against Yale, Cornell, Michigan State, Gonzaga and Buffalo for the trophy. SU then travels to Philadelphia, P.A. for the Orange Challenge Cup, an annual race against Northeastern University and University of Pennsylvania. Last season SU won the Orange Cup for only the sixth time in the cup's 30 year history.
Syracuse will then travel to Boston for the O'Leary Cup against Dartmouth and Radcliffe on April 17-18, followed by the Windermere Cup against Washington in Seattle on May 1.
The BIG EAST championship is set to take place in Worcester, Mass. on April 25. The Orange won three-consecutive titles from 2001 to 2003 and placed second in 2008-09. SU will then compete in the Eastern Sprints on May 16 in Camden, N.J., followed by the NCAA Championship in Sacramento, Calif. on May 28.
