The third-ranked Syracuse University field hockey remains home and battles Princeton on Sun., Sept. 6 at 2 p.m.
The Orange and Tigers have met 11 times, with Princeton boasting an 8-3 advantage. SU is 1-4 all-time against the Tigers in Syracuse, with that win coming last season in the NCAA Tournament (3-2 overtime).
Orange vs. Tigers ... A Day to Remember
Despite being accompanied by frigid temperatures and scattered flurries, the Orange overcame the elements to advance to the Final Four, beating Princeton in overtime, 3-2.
It was a day for the freshmen, as Nicole Nelson, Martina Loncarica and Shelby Schraden provided the offense for Syracuse, netting all three of the SU goals.
The first half looked bright for the Tigers, as forward Kathleen Sharkey helped Princeton jump out to a quick 1-0 advantage just 56 seconds into the contest. The Orange battled back when Loncarica provided the equalizer on a beautiful backhander that sailed past Princeton goalkeeper Jennifer King into the top shelf of the cage.
Schraden provided additional firepower when she redirected a through ball from Kahli Vojkovic with 24:54 left to go in the first half providing the Orange with a slim 2-1 lead.
Coming off of a corner, Princeton midfielder Sarah Reinprecht scored, knotting things up at 2-2 at 23:29 left.
With 1:04 left in the period, Nelson positioned herself in front of the Princeton cage, anticipating a pass from Lindsey Conrad. Sure enough the ball rolled over to the freshman forward who chipped in the change, and sent the Orange sprinting from the bench in celebration.

Syracuse was down but not out, coming from behind twice to defeat the No. 18 Ohio State Buckeyes, 3-2, in overtime on Friday afternoon at J.S. Coyne Stadium. The Orange never led in regulation and was outshot 14-11 in 70 minutes of regulation, but SU was able to post two game-tying goals to take the contest into overtime. Sophomore forward Heather Susek scored the game-winning goal at 73:19.
Tigers Last Time Out
Sophomore Kathleen Sharkey, last year's Ivy League Rookie of the Year, scored three goals, including the game winner in overtime, as Princeton began 2009 with a 5-4 win against 18th-ranked Ohio State on Saturday afternoon in Syracuse, N.Y.
