SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's ice hockey team will wrap up its five-game home streak against Hockey East opponents this weekend. The Orange will face another top 10 foe in No. 10 Providence on Friday, October 15 at 7 p.m. and host Connecticut the following day at 4 p.m. at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Syracuse met these same two teams in a back-to-back weekend series last season.
Providence is 3-1 this season, while Connecticut is 2-1 overall. UConn lost to New Hampshire, 2-1, on Oct. 2, and just six days later, Syracuse beat the Wildcats 4-2. The Huskies will face Colgate on Friday, Oct. 15 before making the short trip to Syracuse for Saturday's contest.
The Providence Series
Syracuse won the first meeting between the Orange and the Friars, 3-1, on Oct. 17, 2009 in Providence, R.I. Stefanie Marty had a game-high two goals to help SU to its first win of the 2009-10 season.
The Connecticut Series
Prior to its win against Providence last season, SU and Connecticut met on the ice for the first time on Oct. 16, 2009. Despite SU's late scoring run, including a goal by Julie Rising in the third period, Syracuse came up short against the Huskies, 3-2.
A Look at the Orange
Syracuse is off to its best start in program history with a record of 1-1-1. Last weekend, the Orange triumphed against No. 8 New Hampshire, 4-2, and came up short against No. 9 Boston College, 5-2, the next day. Rising leads the Orange in points so far this season off one goal and six assists. Rookie goaltender Kallie Billadeau has started the last two games for Syracuse and owns a goal against average of 3.50 and a .896 saves percentage. She turned away 60 shots in two games last weekend to help Syracuse go 1-1 against two top 10 opponents.
Looking Forward
The Orange will embark on its first road trip next week when it travels to Schenectady, N.Y. to play a two-game series against Union. The puck will first drop on Friday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. and the two teams will meet again the following day (Oct. 22) at 3 p.m.
