SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse's women's ice hockey team was dealt its first loss of the 2010-11 campaign, 5-2, by No. 9 Boston College. For the third consecutive game, the Orange registered the first goal on the scoreboard as sophomore Isabel Menard put home a pass from Ashley Cockell.
Freshman goaltender Kallie Billadeau played all 60 minutes again for SU and recorded 34 saves in her second career start. Her 18 second period saves were key in allowing the Orange to head into the second intermission tied 2-2. During a power play opportunity with just under four minutes remaining in the second period, senior Julie Rising one-timed a pass from Menard past Boston College goaltender Molly Schaus to even the score.
Cockell had a solid performance on both ends of the ice, recording two assists and a game high four blocks. Menard also deflected three of the Eagles' shot attempts. Each team tallied 11 shots in the first period, but Boston College came out firing in the following two periods and held a 39-23 advantage when the final horn sounded. The Eagles' Kelli Stack produced a hat trick off a game high nine shots.
Up next, the Orange will host No. 10 Providence on Friday, October 15 at Tennity Ice Pavilion at 7 p.m. and welcome Connecticut the following day (Oct. 16) at 4 p.m.
