A LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Syracuse extended its winning streak to four games with a 63-60 victory against William & Mary in the second round of the Legends Classic on Sunday, November 21. Junior Kris Joseph led the Orange with 18 points, while senior Rick Jackson and junior Scoop Jardine added 11 points apiece. Jackson pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double.
Syracuse led by two at halftime and extended its lead to nine to start the second half, but William & Mary fought back and tied the game at 45-45 at the 11:15 mark. Neither could pull away as the final stretch of the second half featured two ties and four lead changes. Freshman Baye Moussa Keita hit one-of-two shots from the free throw line to give Syracuse a 61-60 advantage with 1:29 to play. The score remained that way until Joseph went to the line with 23 seconds left on the clock. He converted one of his two free throws to put SU up by three, 62-60. A William & Mary turnover with 8.5 seconds to play gave Syracuse possession. Joseph was fouled again and his free throw gave the Orange the 63-60 victory.
Jardine tied career highs with nine assists and five steals, while Joseph grabbed seven rebounds and dished out a season-best four assists. Keita finished with seven rebounds, and fellow freshman Dion Waiters contributed nine points in the victory.
