SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Sophomore center Kayla Alexander logged her third-consecutive 20-point game to help lead 24/rv Syracuse (11-1) to a 90-31 victory against Bryant (3-8) on Thursday afternoon at the Carrier Dome. It marked the 38th consecutive non-conference home victory for the Orange.
Alexander led all scorers with 23 points and added eight rebounds and four blocks, helping the Orange to a 48-12 advantage in the paint and a 57-28 edge on the boards. Sophomore forward Elashier Hall notched her first career double-double in the win with a career-best 17 points and 12 rebounds while classmate Carmen Tyson-Thomas added her seventh career double-double with 11 points and a team-high tying 12 boards.
The Orange dominated the Bulldogs in all facets of the game, turning 15 Bryant turnovers into 22 points while holding an 18-0 advantage in fast break points. Freshman guard La'Shay Taft rounded out the double-digit scorers, posting 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting, including a pair of threes.
Syracuse got off to a fast start opening the game with 16 unanswered and holding the Bulldogs without a field goal through the first 5:30 minutes of play. Alexander was dominant in the opening stretch, netting nine points in traffic.
Leading 35-16, the Orange continued to outmatch Bryant, using an 11-0 run to bump its lead, 44-16, with 3:16 left on the clock. Hall logged six of her game-leading 16 first-half points in the stretch, helping SU carry a 48-19 lead into the break.
Syracuse opened the second half in similar fashion to the first, scoring 18 unanswered while holding the Bulldogs without a field goal through the first seven minutes to bump its lead, 66-19, with 14:10 remaining in regulation. Alexander had eight points in the stretch while Hemingway, Harris and Morrow each added three.
The Orange maintained its commanding lead through the remainder of the contest, cruising to a 90-31 win.
SU returns to the Carrier Dome to ring in the new year on January 1 when it hosts Arkansas Pine Bluff at 6 p.m. Fans holding a ticket to the 3:30 men's game against Notre Dame are invited to stay for the women's game free of charge.
