SYRACUSE, N.Y. - 24/rv Syracuse (11-1) concludes its non-conference schedule when it hosts Arkansas Pine Bluff (0-10) on New Year's Day in the Carrier Dome. Tip time is set for 6 p.m. and fans holding a ticket to the 3:30 p.m. men's game against Notre Dame are invited to stay for the women's game free of charge.
The contest can be heard live on SU's flagship station ESPN 97.7 FM/1200 AM with Brian Higgins '04 on the call. Fans can also listen to the game on Syracuse's student station, WJPZ 89.1 FM. Last Time Out
Sophomore center Kayla Alexander logged her third-consecutive 20-point game to help lead Syracuse to a 90-31 victory against Bryant on Dec. 28 at the Carrier Dome.
Alexander led all scorers with 23 points and added eight rebounds and four blocks, helping the Orange to a 48-12 advantage in the paint and a 57-28 edge on the boards. Sophomore forward Elashier Hall notched her first career double-double in the win with a career-best 17 points and 12 rebounds while classmate Carmen Tyson-Thomas added her seventh career double-double with 11 points and a team-high tying 12 boards.
The Orange dominated the Bulldogs in all facets of the game, turning 15 Bryant turnovers into 22 points while holding an 18-0 advantage in fast break points. Freshman guard La'Shay Taft rounded out the double-digit scorers, posting 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting, including a pair of threes.
Scouting Arkansas Pine Bluff
Arkansas Pine Bluff (0-10) comes to Syracuse with a winless record, having last played in a 112-52 loss at Oklahoma on Dec. 29.
The Lady Lions will play their 10th of 11 games on the road against the Orange.
The Lions have two players averaging double-digit points. Laquisha Slaton leads the way with 12.6 points. She has also recorded a team-best 1.4 assists and 1.9 steals per game. Jasmine Abrams is next with 11.9 points per game. She also leads the team in rebounds (6.2), assists (1.4) and blocks (1.3).
UAPB averages just 48.0 points and has struggled with its shooting, hitting more than 29.5 percent in just three games.
Series Notes
Saturday's contest is the first between the two institutions on the hardwood. The Orange is 3-1 this season against first-time opponents.
Syracuse's last four opponents have all been first-time matchups.
