
Orange Edges Columbia, 4-3

NEW YORK – Syracuse (6-1, 2-0) edged Columbia, 4-3, at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. The Orange earned the doubles point with a pair of victories and concreted the win with a trio of singles triumphs.
Sophomore Alessondra Parra improved to 5-2 in singles play with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles. Senior transfer Eleanor Peters improved her singles season mark to 6-1 with a victory at No. 4 singles while junior co-captain Simone Kalhorn also improved to 6-1 with a victory at sixth singles.
No. 74 CC Sardinha had a strong debut at No. 1 singles, taking Columbia's Nicole Bartnick to three sets, 2-6, 7-6 (7), 10-5.
SU shook things up in doubles play as sophomore Emily Harman and junior Christina Tan improved to 4-1 as a tandem in No. 1 doubles with a 9-7 victory against Bartnick and Carling Donovan. Peters teamed with fellow senior Chelsea Jones for the first time this season to earn an 8-5 victory at second doubles while Sardina and Kalhorn combined for the first time this season as third doubles, but came up short against Natalia Christenson and Eliza Matache, 8-5.
The Orange continues its two-match road swing as it visits Princeton on Sunday, February 21 at 11 a.m.
