
Orange Wins at Eastern Michigan

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange extended its spring unbeaten streak to four matches as it defeated Eastern Michigan, 4-3, in Ypsilanti, Mich. on Friday afternoon. Syracuse remained perfect in doubles play on the season, sweeping all three matches to earn the doubles point.
Sophomore Emily Harman and junior Christina Tan combined in No. 1 doubles for the second time this season, defeating EMU's top pairing of Julia Breuss and Miriam Westerink, 8-7 (2). Senior Chelsea Jones and freshman CC Sardinha earned an 8-4 victory at second singles while senior Eleanor Peters and junior Simone Kalhorn remained perfect at the No. 3 slot with an 8-4 win.
The Orange and the Eagles split the singles matches, with EMU earning a win in the top three slots and SU taking the bottom three matches. Breuss defeated Harman at No. 1 singles while Westerink ended Parra's undefeated run at the No. 2 spot. Tan played Eastern Michigan's Xu Chang tough at No. 3 singles, winning the second set after falling in the first, but could not complete the comeback.
SU locked up the match victory with wins in the bottom three singles contests. Peters remained unbeaten on the season with a win at No. 4 singles, while Sardinha moved up to the No. 5 position and earned the win. Kalhorn cemented the victory, defeating Marcela Rivero at No. 6 singles to leave the Orange unblemished on the season.
Syracuse faces its toughest competition of the season as it squares off against No. 19 Michigan on Saturday, February 6 at 1 p.m.
