PHILADELPHIA – The Syracuse women's rowing team competed in five races against Northeastern and Pennsylvania on Saturday morning on the Schuylkill River. The Huskies took home the Orange Challenge Cup, winning the varsity eight race was a time of 6:28.5. Syracuse, which placed third, covered the 2,000-meter course in 6:34.9.
SU's third varsity eight of Kristina Herb (Coxswain), Kate Severino (Stroke), Jenn McKay (7-seat), Mary Carlson (6-seat), Laura Adams (5-seat), Lindsey Spry (4-seat), Katie Flatley (3-seat), Mary Wilson (2-seat) and Paola Benevento (bow) was its best crew, posting a team-best second-place finish with a time of 7:09.3. Penn won the race in 6:59.6.
Syracuse's second varsity eight placed third (6:53.0) Penn also won that race in 6:35.9. The Orange varsity four was also third, finishing in 7:47.7. Penn (7:39.0) took home that race as well.
SU's second varsity four also placed third with a time of 7:59.6. Northeastern won the race in 7:36.8.
The Orange returns to action next weekend on the Charles River in Boston, Mass. Syracuse with take part in the Charles River Challenge as well as via for the O'Leary Cup against No. 16 Radcliff and No. 20 Dartmouth.
