Orange Looks to Continue BIG EAST Success

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Syracuse (21-16, 5-3) looks to continue its BIG EAST success in a three-game series at Villanova (15-21, 3-5) beginning Saturday, April 17. The teams will meet in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. before wrapping up the series with a single game Sunday at 11 a.m. The Orange enters the weekend tied for second in conference with Louisville and DePaul with a 5-3 BIG EAST record.

Last At Bat
Syracuse was dominant in a Thursday doubleheader at Cornell, sweeping the series, 4-1 and 10-0. The Orange outhit the Big Red, 15-8, behind strong offensive performances by freshman Ashley Dimon and sophomore Jenna Caira. Dimon led the Orange, hitting .667 (4-for-6) with a pair of runs scored and her first career double while Caira batted .600 with three home runs.
Caira and freshman Stacy Kuwik each earned pitching victories for the Orange in the sweep. Caira earned her 10th win of the season, holding the Big Red to a single earned run, while Kuwik shut out the opposition in her third complete game one-hitter of the season.
The All-Time Series
Villanova leads the all-time series with the Orange, 11-9, dating back to 2001. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead in the all-time series, winning the first six meetings between the teams.
The teams last met on April 5, 2009 at the SU Softball Stadium where Syracuse swept the doubleheader, 5-0 and 6-1.
