PELHAM, N.Y. – The No. 10 Syracuse University men's rowing team won three races, including the Conlan Cup varsity eight race against No. 11 Boston University and No. 13 Columbia at the Orchard Beach Lagoon located Pelham Bay Park.
“The guys did a great job across the board including the freshman,” head coach Dave Reischman said. ”The three varsity boats had really good execution with everybody sticking to the race plan. We had a good base cadence and were able to grind it out. We were only concerned with ourselves and not the other crews.”
The Orange secured its sixth consecutive Conlan Cup with a time of 5:50.0. Columbia finished second in 5:53.3 and Boston University was third (5:55.5). Though SU was also racing with Columbia, the Conlan Cup is a competition solely between Boston and Syracuse.
The Syracuse varsity eight has won 15 of its last 17 cup contests dating back to 2006. SU is also 27-3 in dual races since 2006.
The SU second varsity eight and second varsity four each won its race. The second varsity eight won its race with a time of 6:02.0. Boston placed second in 6:07.5. The second varsity four finished in a time of 6:53.3. Boston finished second in 7:00.9
The Orange freshman eight finished third in its race with a time of 6:09.5. Boston was second in 6:03.5.
Syracuse returns to action Saturday, May 1 in Seattle Wash. at the Opening Day Regatta.
