Basketball Hands out Team Awards

The Orange celebrated the 2009-10 season by handing out 14 team awards at its end of the year banquet. Syracuse (25-11) ended its season in the quarterfinals of the Women's National Invitation Tournament. SU, which won more than one postseason game for the first time in a single season, concluded its historic campaign with the most wins in a season since it began competing in the NCAA in 1981-82.
Former Syracuse great Nicole Michael was the top honoree, earning four awards. The Queens, N.Y. native was named the team's Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year. She also took home the award for highest point (14.3) and rebounding (7.8) average.
Freshmen Kayla Alexander and Carmen Tyson-Thomas each took home two awards. Alexander was named the Defensive Player of the Year. She also took home the award for highest block average (1.9). Tyson-Thomas was named the Most Improved Player and received the free-throw percentage (.732) leader award.
Head coach Quentin Hillsman presented junior Erica Morrow with the Coaches Award for her willingness to do all that was asked of her. Morrow also led the team in steals (2.3) for the third consecutive season.
Freshman Elashier Hall received the Hustle Award for her efforts. Sophomore Lynnae Lampkins was the team's leader in 3-point field-goal percentage (.415). Junior Tasha Harris led the team in assists (3.6) for the third consecutive year. Vionca Murray took home the award for highest field-goal percentage (.562).
The Orange also honored its four seniors, Michael, Murray, Juanita Ward and Lynnise Nixon.
Syracuse returns nine letterwinners in 2010-11.
