Syracuse women's basketball has added Emely Rodriguez to its roster for the upcoming 2026-27 season. Rodriguez, a native of La Romana, Dominican Republic, joins the Orange from Iowa, where her sophomore season was cut short by injury.
"Emely will bring us instant offense," Syracuse Head Coach Felisha Legette-Jack said. "She is a ferocious competitor that is willing to lay it on the line every day. I love Emely's intensity of purpose, passion, and defense! I am thrilled to get this HUGE YES in May! Orange Nation, please help me welcome Emely Rodriguez to our Orange Family."
Rodriguez had a standout freshman year at UCF in 2024-25 where she earned All-Big 12 Freshman Team honors in her lone season with the Knights where she ranked second on the team in scoring (11.9 ppg) and added 5.3 rebounds per game. She scored in double figures in 16 games as a freshman and led the Knights in free throw percentage (.753). Additionally, she had 36 steals on the season, second-best on the squad.Â
The 6-foot guard transferred to Iowa for her sophomore season, which was shortened due to injury. She appeared in six games during the 2025-26 season, totaling 43 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.Â
Rodriguez was among the top recruits out of South Florida coming out of high school. She helped lead Central Pointe Academy to the SIAA State Championship and was named the Miami Herald's Miami-Dade County Girl's Basketball Player of the Year. She also guided Horeb Christian to its first-ever state championship game appearance in 2023, averaging 26.5 points, 15.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game at the prep level.
Rodriguez is the fourth player Legette-Jack and her staff have signed out of the transfer portal this offseason, joining Sarah Rambus, Tyi Skinner and Jaleesa Molina. Syracuse also has two freshman for next season in New York natives Madison Howard and Destiny Robinson.Â
