DeSarle Punches Ticket to Nationals

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Catherine DeSarle took 11th-place in the 10,000-meter run with a season-best time of 35:20.20 at the NCAA East Regionals on Friday, May 27 to punch her ticket to the NCAA National Championship in Eugene, Oregon. The Stormville, N.Y. native led to the Orange on day one and will make her first trip to Nationals.
Graduate student Michael LeBlanc was also a top performer for the Orange, as he topped his season-best time in the 100-meter dash with a sprint of 10.41 and took 18th-place.
Finishing just behind DeSarle in the 10,000-meter was graduate student Nana Sang-Bender, who took 25th-place (36:18.02), freshman Kimberly Spano (36:20.09) and senior Stefanie Slekis (36:52.83).
Sophomore harrier Tito Medrano fell just short of NCAA automatic qualification as he toed the line in the 10,000-meter men's race and placed 13th with a time of 30:20.71.
Also in the distance events, sophomore Lauren Penney and senior Maegan Krifchin competed in the 1,500-meter run. Penney recorded a showing of 4:24.80, while Krifchin finished with a time of 4:34.37.
After receiving an NCAA Nationals automatic qualification in the heptathlon, senior Uhunoma Osazuwa was seeking a bid to Nationals in the high jump. Osazuwa did not reach qualifying standards as she notched a mark of 1.74m.
The Orange continues its quest to reach NCAA Nationals today when the men's and women's 3,000-meter steeplechase commence at 8:30 p.m. and 9:10 p.m., respectively.
