BALTIMORE, Md. – Rising Syracuse sophomore Michelle Tumolo and former Orange standout Katie Rowan '09 have been selected to the 2010-11 U.S. Women's Lacrosse national team. The roster was chosen after three days of tryouts at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County from July 30 – August 1. The 36-member team will train for the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup.
Tumolo was one of only three rising sophomores to make the final roster. In 2009, Tumolo was Syracuse's third-leading scorer with 74 points and ranked second in assists with 37. Both are the highest single-season totals for a freshman in program history. Her 74 points tie her for ninth while her 37 assists rank fifth on the school's single-season record list. Tumolo earned All-Northeast Region Second Team honors and was selected to womenslacrosse.com's All-Rookie squad.
Rowan ended her Syracuse career in 2009 as the Orange's all-time leader in points (396) and assists (164). She also ranks second in career goals (232). The most decorated player in school history, Rowan was a three-time first-team All-American (2007-09), two-time BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year and four-time All-BIG EAST First Team honoree. She was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy and Honda Award in 2009 after leading the nation in scoring (142) and assists (69), setting single-season school records in both categories. Rowan was also a member of the U.S. national team in 2009 when it won the gold medal at the World Cup.
