Historic 2010 Season
The Orange is coming off its most successful season in program history, compiling a 20-3 overall record and advancing to the semifinal round of the BIG EAST tournament. The squad's record marked the first time a Syracuse tennis team reached 20 wins in a single season. Additionally, the team went undefeated at home (9-0) and dominated regular season play against conference opponents with a perfect 7-0 record.
Jensen Enters Fifth Season
Syracuse head coach Luke Jensen is entering his fifth season at the helm for the Orange and has quickly become one of the program's most prolific coaches. In his four seasons at Syracuse, Jensen has earned a 58-33 record, placing him first all-time among SU coaches with a .637 overall winning percentage.
New Faces Join Veteran Squad
The 2011 squad features three new freshman faces that will join the five veterans returning for this year's season. Newcomers Maddie Kobelt (New Albany, Ohio), Aleah Marrow (Durham, N.C.) and Eva Raszkiewicz(Brooklyn, N.Y.) will join the returning veterans, all of whom are at least juniors. Kobelt was named the Female Player of the Year by the Greater Columbus Tennis Association in 2010 and all three freshmen have already found success at the collegiate level by earning wins in fall tournaments leading up to the spring season.
Kalhorn and Harman Named Captains
Senior Simone Kalhorn and junior Emily Harman have been named captains for the 2011 season. Kalhorn, who also served as captain in the 2010 season, is coming off one of her best campaigns, tallying a 32-14 overall record. Harman also had an impressive season in 2010, finishing first on the team with 17-6 doubles mark and a 5-3 record at the No. 1 singles position. Overall, Harman finished the season with a 32-13 record. Both Kalhorn and Harman received BIG EAST All-Academic honors and were named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in 2010.
Orange Opens BIG EAST Play
It's only the first weekend of matches, but Syracuse already has a BIG EAST conference opponent in Georgetown on Sunday, Jan. 30th at the Drumlins Tennis Center. The Orange dominated conference play last season, compiling a perfect 7-0 regular-season mark. The squad did fall to one BIG EAST foe last season. The loss came during the semifinal round of the BIG EAST tournament when Notre Dame outlasted SU, 0-4. Syracuse's next conference opponent comes on February 11, when Seton Hall travels to Syracuse to take on the Orange.
