
Orange Plays to 1-1 Overtime Tie

Syracuse 1, Wayne State 1
DETROIT, Mich. – Despite outshooting Wayne State 5-0 in the overtime period, Syracuse tied the Warriors 1-1 on Friday at City Sports Center. The Orange is now 10-13-4 overall and 4-4-1 in College Hockey America (CHA) action.
Wayne State struck first making is 1-0 just two minutes into the third period. SU's Isabel Menard evened the score at the 15:23 mark. Freshman goaltender Kallie Billadeau cleared the puck to senior Julie Rising who found Menard for the score. The assist marked Billadeau's first career point at SU.
Neither team could manage the go-ahead goal and the game headed to overtime. In extra minutes, Syracuse outshot Wayne State 5-0 but was denied all scoring opportunities.
The first period belonged to the Warriors who outshot the Orange 10-1, but Billadeau denied all 10 Wayne State attempts. The Orange's penalty kill was the key in keeping Wayne State scoreless in the first 20 minutes as SU killed four Warrior man-up opportunities.
Syracuse answered in the second stanza, holding a 19-2 advantage in shots. The Orange had four power-play chances but could not find the back of the net. For the third consecutive game, Syracuse went without a goal in the first two periods and the teams were knotted 0-0 heading into intermission.
Billadeau finished the game with 33 saves in net for Syracuse. All four of SU's overtime contests this season have ended in a draw.
The Orange and the Warriors will meet on the ice again tomorrow at 2 p.m. at City Sports Center.
