ERIE, Pa. – The Syracuse women's ice hockey team (8-11-3, 2-2) was held scoreless, 6-0, by No. 4 Mercyhurst (16-4, 7-0) in game-two of a College Hockey America (CHA) series on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
The Lakers scored three unanswered goals in the first period, which started with a score just 24 seconds into the matchup. A second period goal at the 14:35 mark gave Mercyhurst a 4-0 lead heading into intermission.
SU's defense held the Lakers scoreless for over 24 minutes of play, but Mercyhurst tallied two quick goals in the final minute of play, including one on a power-play, to produce the final score of 6-0. Senior Ashley Cockell tallied a team high six shots on net for the Orange.
Freshman goaltenders Jenesica Drinkwater and Kallie Billadeau split time in net for Syracuse. Drinkwater recorded 15 saves while Billadeau made 21 stops.
The Orange will return home to face CHA opponent Robert Morris in a two game series on Jan. 14 and 15 at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
