Gennaro Wins Another Gold Medal

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse men's rowing alum Mike Gennaro '11 captured his second gold medal of the 2011 Pan American Games on the final day of racing at Lake Zapotlan in Guzman City, Mexico.
A day after winning the men's pair, Gennaro took to the water as the stroke of the U.S. men's eight and helped the boat post a winning time of 5:39.32. The U.S. crew led the entire race, outdistancing Canada (5:41.01) and Argentina (5:41.77) for the gold.
Fellow Orange alum Josh Gautreau '06 was also in action for the United States Wednesday. Gautreau and his crew of Robert Milam, Ryan Kirlin and Frank Petrucci crossed the finish line in 6:18.62 to defeat Guatemala (6:21.59) and Venezuela (6:37.90) in the B final of the men's lightweight coxless four.
Overall, the United States tied for second with eight medals in the Pan Am Games rowing competition – four gold, two silver and two bronze. Cuba led all nations with nine rowing medals.
