The Syracuse cross country and track & field teams are excited to announce the addition of John Riese to the Orange coaching staff, effective immediately. Riese will work with all aspects of the SU program.
Riese, who graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2009, was a four-year letterwinner while earning his Bachelor's degree in education and history. He returns to SU where we previously completed an internship with current assistant coach Dave Hegland where he observed and interacted with both the men's and women's sprint and hurdle groups on the track and in the weight room. In addition, he assisted in academic achievement with the Orange while earning his Master's degree from California University of Pennsylvania in exercise science.
Riese has earned a variety of certifications, including becoming certified by the National Strength and Condition Association and the Level 1 USATF Coaching Association. Riese was also a featured clinician at Cortland State and SUNY Cortland Track & Field training camps, where he demonstrated proper warm-ups, discussed proper nutrition, and taught athletes about proper development and weight-lifting skills.
The Orange cross country team returns to the trails next weekend, Nov. 12, for the NCAA Northeast Regionals in Buffalo, N.Y.
