11/14/2025 1:31:00 PM | Cross Country
The Syracuse men's cross country team won the NCAA Northeast Region Championship for the second year in a row and 13th time in the last 16 years.
The victory comes with an automatic spot in next week's NCAA Cross Country Championships, extending the Orange's streak to 17-straight seasons in making it to the sport's final meet. The streak entered Friday's regional action as the nation's fourth-longest active streak, trailing just Stanford, BYU and Colorado. All those programs will compete in their respective regionals on Friday afternoon.
Six of Syracuse's seven participants finished in the top-16 at the meet, giving the Orange a 63-point advantage over second-place Iona. The 32 points were the lowest score for any program at the meet since 2017, when 'Cuse won with just 28 points.
Peter Walsdorf led the Orange, finishing second overall in 29:17.5. The Orange claimed places six through nine with Benne Anderson (29:21.5), Matthew Neill (29:23.4), Assaf Harari (29:23.4) and Sam Lawler (29:24.4) completing the scoring in succession. Louis Small (29:44.0) took 16th and Sam Ricchiuti (30:16.4) placed 30th.
Walsdorf, Anderson, Neill, Harari, Lawler and Small earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors for their performances.
The Syracuse women placed fourth at the meet with 126 points. The result means they'll have to wait for NCAA at large selections in hopes of continuing their season.
Selma Anderson led the Orange with a fourth-place finish in 19:55.3. Madeline Heintz followed in 14th place in 20:20.8. Both claimed All-Region honors for their performance. Anderson earned an automatic spot to the NCAA Championships as an individual based on her finish.
Emma Eastman (20:39.4) was next in 30th, followed by Nyah Hernandez (20:39.5) one spot behind. Maisie Burns (20:56.5/47th) rounded out the scoring. She was followed by Carmen Luisi (20:58.6) and Jayden Harberts (21:06.7) in 51st and 64th, respectively.
Host Boston College won the women's title with 60 points, followed by Providence (71) and Army (91) ahead of Syracuse.
The NCAA Championships will be Saturday, Nov. 22 in Columbia, Missouri.
