SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Orange men and women's rowing teams combined to win three of the six races at the Syracuse Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 5 on Onondaga Lake. More than 500 people were in attendance as the Orange competed against crews from Cornell, Hobart, Buffalo, Rochester and Colgate in various events along the three-mile course.
The Orange men's varsity four “B” boat of Matt Cosmann, Aidan Barrett, Mac Zink, Mike Dietrick, and Jake Martens took first place out of 15 crews in the varsity four '"A" flight with a time of 17:23.7. The Syracuse men's “A” boat finished second with a time of 17:36.3.
Men's head coach Dave Reischman could not see the end of the race due to his responsibilities as host of the regatta, but was satisfied with the team's performance.
“I did not see the finish, but I saw the results and was obviously pleased,” Reischman said.

“It was the first win in my tenure, the first time we ever came out as the No. 1 crew in the varsity women's four,” Moore said. “That was a testament to how hard the women in that boat worked.”

After the racing, SU coaching legend Bill Sanford '63 was inducted in the Syracuse Rowing Hall of Fame in a brief ceremony at the Ten Eyck Boathouse. Sanford was the coach of the men's rowing team for 35 years from 1968-2002 and led several crews to Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) championships, including the 1978 Orange varsity eight.
Both the men and women's rowing teams will conclude their fall seasons at the Foot of the Charles in Boston, Mass. The Orange women will compete in the event on Saturday, Nov. 12, while the men will participate the following weekend on Saturday, Nov. 19.
