
Mike Gennaro and Vince Berry Named Men's Rowing Captains

SYRACUSE – Seniors Mike Gennaro and Vince Berry have been named men's rowing team captains for the 2010-11 campaign, it was announced by head coach Dave Reischman.
“If we are going to row to our potential it will require leadership from the entire team,” said Reischman. “With that being said, Mike and Vince have distinguished themselves on and off the water and deserver the honor of being named captain.”
Gennaro sat stroke of the varsity eight during the 2009-10 season, helping lead the Orange to a sixth-place finish at the IRA Regatta. He also sat stroke and helped lead Syracuse to an eighth-place showing at the 2009 IRA. The Havertown, Pa. native sat stroke in the freshman eight in 2007-08, helping SU finish 10th.
Gennaro has also won two medals with the United States Under 23 Team. He took home a silver medal with the Under 23 Men's Eight National Team at 2010 World Rowing Under 23 Championship and a silver medal in the straight four at the 2009 World Rowing Under 23 Championship.
“Being selected captain by my teammates is an extremely great honor. In a sport where there are no individual statistics and everyone's individual efforts are weighted the same, it's an absolute privilege to be given this title,” said Gennaro. “I am very appreciative that my teammates selected me to be their leader and captain in what we all hope to be a fast and promising season.”
Berry sat in the six-seat for Syracuse's sixth-place finish at the 2010 IRA Regatta. He sat bow in the varsity eight during the 2008-09 season, helping the Orange to an eighth-place finish at the IRA. Berry also sat in the five- and seven-seats for the undefeated freshman eight in 2007-08.
“It is a huge privilege to be selected captain by my teammates. Getting the chance to be at the helm of such a hardworking, successful and highly respected crew team is both an honor and an exciting opportunity for me.,” said Berry. “As we head into our racing season I hope to lead the team to a successful finish.”
Gennaro ,Berry and the rest of the Orange will prep for the spring season with a scrimmage at Princeton, N.J. against Princeton and Georgetown.
