SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After two consecutive home games, the No. 13 Orange return to the road to take on the No. 20 Georgetown Hoyas in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, April 16. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
For the second consecutive week, Syracuse will play in front of a live national audience on CBS Sports Network. The game will also be broadcast live on WJPZ 89.1 FM in the Syracuse area. Live audio will be available on Orange All Access on SUathletics.com. Subscriptions to Orange All Access are available at daily, monthly and yearly rates.
THE SERIES
Saturday's game will be the 18th meeting between the two schools. Georgetown leads the series, 13-4. Last season, the teams played each other on three consecutive weekends. The Hoyas won the first two meetings, to take the BIG EAST regular season and tournament championships. Then in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the Orange registered a 15-8 victory in Washington, D.C. The win marked Syracuse's first win on the road against Georgetown in series history.
HOGAN AND TUMOLO HONORED
For their efforts against Dartmouth, Connecticut, and Notre Dame, senior Liz Hogan earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors and sophomore Michelle Tumolo garnered BIG EAST Honor Roll accolades.
Hogan recorded 26 saves, seven ground balls, and three caused turnovers in three games. She made nine saves in the Orange's victory against Connecticut. Against Notre Dame, Hogan recorded 11 saves, in the process of becoming the first goalie in Syracuse history to record 600 saves during her career. She also leads the BIG EAST in saves per game (8.80).
Tumolo tallied 11 points (six goals, five assists) in three games. She matched her career-high of three assists against Connecticut. Against Notre Dame, she tallied three points (two goals, one assist) on the day. Tumolo leads the team in scoring this season with 38 points (17 goals, 21 assists).
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
After playing six consecutive games on the road, the Orange returned to the Carrier Dome this past weekend to face BIG EAST opponents Connecticut and Notre Dame.
Against the Huskies, the score was tied at 6-6 at halftime. Syracuse tallied nine unanswered goals to start the second half to take a 15-6 lead. SU never looked back, coming away with a 17-9 victory. Sophomore Michelle Tumolo led the Orange with six points (three goals, three assists) on the day.
In its second game of the weekend, Syracuse took on the Fighting Irish. Down by one goal early in the first half, the Orange outscored Notre Dame 7-2, to take a 9-5 lead at the half. The Irish tallied one goal to start the second half, but never came closer than that as SU came away with a 12-7 victory. Freshman Katie Webster registered three goals on the day to lead the team.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
After starting off the season with a 2-5 record, the Hoyas have reeled off four consecutive victories, all against BIG EAST opponents. In its last game, Georgetown defeated Louisville, 19-12. Sophomore Sophia Thomas led the Hoyas in scoring with seven points (five goals, two assists) against the Cardinals.
Senior Jordy Kirr leads Georgetown in scoring with 41 points (19 goals, 22 assists) on the season. For her performances this past week, Kirr earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors. Thomas leads the team in goals (27) and ranks second in scoring (35 points).
Freshman Barb Black has been in goal for the Hoyas the past eight games. Black owns a 9.95 goals-against average and a .354 save percentage.
