PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Katie Hursey was named BIG EAST Women's Track Athlete of the Week on April 26 for her performance at the Princeton Larry Ellis Memorial Invitational last weekend.
The Hampstead, Md. native smashed her personal-best by nearly 14 seconds to take the 3,000-meter steeplechase title with a BIG EAST and ECAC qualifying time of 10:13.39. She led a pack of 17 runners across the finish line in her heat and finished ahead of 36 total competitors in the event. Hursey currently tops the conference and ranks fourth in the nation.
She had previously qualified for the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, but shaved 13.76 seconds off her time at Princeton. She has also met conference and ECAC standards in the 5,000-meter run, where she ranks third in the conference and 10th in the nation.
Hursey and members of the Orange are gearing up for the BIG EAST Championships, which will be hosted by Villanova from May 6-8.
