All Three Boats Reach Petite Finals

CAMDEN, N.J. – The Syracuse University women's rowing team had all three of its crews reach the Petite Finals at the 2011 Eastern Sprints on the Cooper River in New Jersey on Sunday, May 15, 2011. The varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four all qualified for the Petite Finals. The varsity eight was SU's highest finish, placing fourth in the Petite Final and 10th overall.
“I fell that all three crews raced to the fullest extent of their capacity of athletes. It was wonderful to see them do that at a championship race. We were very pleased that the varsity eight was able to avenge the loss in the BIG EAST Championship to Rutgers and Georgetown,” first-year head coach Justin Moore said. “Today also showed the tremendous about of progress throughout the season. We are not satisfied, but clearly understand we have made progress and are motivated for the 2011-12 season.
The varsity eight, ranked 12th in the final EAWRC Coaches Poll, placed fourth in the Petite Final and 10th overall. The Orange recorded a time of 6:49.69. No. 6 Columbia won the Petite Final with a time of 6:38.62. SU advanced to the Petite Final with a time of 7:00.87 in its preliminary heat. No. 1 Princeton won the heat in 6:34.85.
The 10th-ranked second varsity eight finished fifth in the Petite Final and 11th overall. Syracuse posted a time of 7:09.10. No. 7 Pennsylvania won the Petite Final with a time of 6:58.26. SU qualified for the Petite Final with a time of 7:04.52 in its preliminary heat. No. 3 Yale took top honors with a time of 6:51.06.
Syracuse's varsity four, ranked 12th, placed fifth in the Petite Final and 11th overall. SU completed the course in 8:00.92. No. 10 Navy won the Petite Final in 7:36.04. The Orange moved to the Petite Final with a time of 8:10.16 in its preliminary heat. No. 1 Brown won the heat in 7:41.09.
