NBA Draft Has Orange In Its History

Ever since Bob Savage was selected in the ninth round of the 1950 NBA Draft by the Syracuse Nationals, the annual NBA draft has had an Orange presence on almost a yearly basis. The 2011 Draft should feature more of the same as recent SU graduate Rick Jackson waits to hear his name called.
Jackson, the 2010-11 BIG EAST Conference defensive player of the year, completed his Syracuse eligibility in the NCAA Tournament. He played 143 career games for the Orange, tying him with Derrick Coleman for second on the program's all-time list.
Many draft prognosticators have Jackson going in the second round of this year's event.
Over the years, Syracuse has had 53 players drafted by NBA Clubs. Seventeen of those have been first-round picks, including Wesley Johnson, who was the fourth overall pick in the 2010 draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Dave Bing was the first Syracuse player tabbed in the first round. He was the second overall selection of the Detroit Pistons in 1966. Coleman was the only player taken first overall -- he was chosen by the New Jersey Nets in 1990.
In addition to Johnson, the 2010 draft also included Andy Rautins, who was a second-round pick of the New York Knicks. Syracuse has had a player selected in eight of the most recent 11 drafts, a run that began in 2000 with Etan Thomas and Jason Hart.
