Six to Represent SU at USA Championship

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Six members of the Syracuse University track and field team will represent the Orange at the 2011 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships from June 23-26 in Eugene, Ore.
Senior Katie Hursey will highlight the women's competition in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Hursey became a Second Team All-American in the steeplechase at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Her time of 10:08.44 at the NCAA East Preliminary Round propelled her into the finals in Des Moines, Iowa and set a school record in the event.
Five rising sophomores will compete for Syracuse in three different junior men's distance events.
Max Straneva, Reed Kamyszek and John Squeri will represent the Orange in the 5,000 meter run on Saturday, June 25 at 11:30 p.m. EST. Straneva and Kamyszek were both 2011 BIG EAST and IC4A qualifiers in the indoor 5,000m. Straneva earned a spot on Team USA and competed in the 2011 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in March.
Andrew Palmer will run in the 10,000 meter event on Friday, June 24 at 12:30 p.m. EST. He was also a 2011 BIG EAST and IC4A indoor qualifier in the 5,000 meter run.
Justin Murray will compete in the semifinals of the 1,500 meter run on Friday, June 24 at 1:45 p.m. EST. During the 2011 outdoor season, Murray clocked a personal-best time of 3:52.61 in the 1,500m at the Swarthmore Twilight Last Chance meet.
