BOSTON – Former Syracuse Orange and current Chesapeake Bayhawks standout Matt Abbott was named to the 2011 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star roster on Monday, June 27. It's the second all-star nod in three professional seasons for Abbott, who made this year's all-star pool as a defensive midfielder.
A total of 40 players make up this year's all-star pool. From the pool, two 20-man teams will be selected on Friday, July 8 with the 2011 MLL All-Star Game, sponsored by Sports Authority, taking place at Harvard Stadium the following day.
Abbott leads the Bayhawks with 28 ground balls in six games. He also has four goals and one assist for five points. At Denver on June 11, Abbott collected a season-high six ground balls and scored a goal in Chesapeake's 16-15 overtime victory against the Outlaws.
Abbott played four seasons for the Orange (2006-09) and helped lead the team to back-to-back NCAA championships in 2008 and 2009. A first-team All-American as a senior, Abbott ranks 10th in Syracuse history with 212 ground balls.
