Orange Tallies Two Top-Nine Finishes

CAMDEN, N.J. – The Syracuse University men's rowing team recorded two top-nine finishes at the 109th IRA Regatta, on the Cooper River in Camden County, N.J. on Saturday. The varsity eight and second varsity eight both placed ninth overall. The varsity four finished 12th overall and the freshman eight ended their season 15th overall. The Orange won the Francis Shields Bowl with its victory in the Master's Eight Alumni race. Syracuse finished 10th in the Ten Eyck Team Championship with 92 points.
“It was the third day of good racing. We executed and responded well to situations on the race course,” head coach Dave Reischman said. “Our guys are little disappointed the finish below their seeding. When you look at the whole picture we had a good season and accomplished a lot of good things for our program.
The seventh-seeded varsity eight finished third in the Petite Final and ninth overall. Syracuse recorded a time of 5:43.120. No. 13 Cornell won the Petite Final in 5:41.526.
Syracuse's second varsity eight, seeded fifth also placed third in its Petite Final and ninth overall The Orange crossed the finish line in 5:51.26. No. 8 Yale won the Petite Final in 5:46.992.
The Orange varsity four rowed to sixth-place showing in its Petite Final and 12th overall, finishing in 6:41.698. George Washington won the Petite Final in 6:25.627.
The 11th-seeded freshman eight finished third in the Third Level Final and 15th overall. Syracuse registered a time of 5:54.648. No. 10 Yale won the Third Level Final in 5:53.628.
Syracuse won the Francis Shields Bowl with its win in the Master's Eight. The Orange alumni finished in 7:16.423, eight seconds faster than its competition.
