Trio Set for U.S. Team Tryouts

BALTIMORE, Md. – #Michelle Tumolo#, who will be a junior on the Syracuse women's lacrosse team this season, and former Orange All-Americans Katie Rowan and Ashley Pike will take part in the second round of tryouts for the 2012 U.S. women's senior national team. The tryouts take place July 29-31 at the University of Baltimore County (UMBC) in Catonsville, Md.
The tryout roster was narrowed down after the first round of tryouts held Memorial Day weekend in Stony Brook, N.Y. Seventy-eight former and current college players from 30 schools made the cut for this weekend's evaluations.
Tumolo led the Orange in scoring in 2011 with 63 points. She set the school record for most assists in a season by a sophomore with a team-best 33. In the final NCAA rankings, Tumolo ranked 14th in assists and 12th in assists per game (1.83). In addition, she led SU with 15 caused turnovers. Tumolo 's list of honors in 2011 include selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team, BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team and the IWLCA All-Northeast Region First Team.
Rowan ended her Syracuse career in 2009 as the Orange's all-time leader in points (396) and assists (164). She also ranks second in career goals (232). The most decorated player in school history, Rowan was a three-time first-team All-American (2007-09), two-time BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year and four-time All-BIG EAST First Team honoree. She was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy and Honda Award in 2009 after leading the nation in scoring (142) and assists (69), setting single-season school records in both categories. Rowan was also a member of the U.S. national team in 2009 when it won the gold medal at the World Cup.
Pike was a third-team All-American as a senior in 2007 when she helped the Orange to the BIG EAST Tournament title and the program's first NCAA Tournament victory. That season, Pike recorded 52 points on 44 goals and eight assists.
The players will be evaluated during the three-day tryout in drill and scrimmage sessions. The final roster will be announced on July 31.
